Recipe for a Three Day Weekend in Oahu
Friday: A taste of Waikiki
Start the day with a leisurely stroll through the Kaka’ako neighborhood to view the more than 300 murals of POW! WOW! Honolulu, tucked unassumingly on buildings and back alleyways.
Grab your spot in the fast-moving line to enjoy a bowl of Curry Nikutama, with a side of Katsu, Tempura Shrimp, Spam Musubi, and anything else you can fit on your tray at Marugame Udon.
Smile ’til your face hurts on a fun (and affordable) sunset sail with Mana Kai Catamaran before sinking into the sand to watch the sun fully go down near the world famous Duke Kahanamoku statue, with thousands of your closest friends.
Dig into a heaping and delicious plate of Loco Moco (or otherwise) at the Rainbow Drive-In before strolling the Waikiki Strip after dark - which will totally be giving Vegas, but with bikini vibes.
Saturday: Go local on the North Shore
Grab a warm slice of banana bread from Seven Brothers, and a coffee from The Country Eatery before heading to Pipeline to watch the big wave surfers take their line.
Kick back and enjoy a plate lunch at Da Bald Guy before making your way to Haleiwa for a stroll through its blocks of snacks and surf shops.
And while this might seem minimal for one day, I assure you there will be so much to see and feel, you’ll be wishing you had several more days to fart around on the North Shore.
Thinking about trying your own hand at surfing?
Do yourself a favor and book a private lesson with 808 Surf School while you’re up there. 🤙
Sunday: Fully unwind on the Windward side
Fill your heart, soul and stomach with a smoothie bowl from Sunrise Shack for breakfast.
Take a tour or rent a kayak to snorkel and play on an incredibly unique stretch of white sand, the Kaneohe Sandbar, located a mile into pristine ocean waters from the shore of He’eia State Park.
Stretch your legs with a short hike to the Lanikai Pillboxes, followed by a shave ice from Island Snow.
Dry your tears with a box of soft and pillowy malasadas from Leonard’s Bakery before catching your flight home.
