Smoothie Bowls

Smoothie Bowls

We eat a lot of smoothie bowls when we’re in Hawaii.

Like, A LOT.

And why wouldn’t we?

Refreshing, tasty and nutrient rich, they’re the perfect way to fill yourself up before (or after) a day at the beach.

And since we can’t book a ticket to paradise TODAY, we’re putting the smoothie my beautiful husband makes us for breakfast every day into a bowl that will whisk us away to the islands.

At least mentally.

That said, there are a million ways to make a beautiful smoothie bowl, but the key to getting it thicker than your typical smoothie drink is by adding more frozen bits and less liquids.

I’m sure that might sound a bit obvi, but I’m here to take the thinking out of delicious food for you.

So let’s get to it!

here’s what you’ll need

  • 1.5 cups frozen assorted berries

  • 2 frozen bananas

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1/4 cup beet juice

  • 1/4 cup cashews

  • cinnamon

  • honey

  • banana

  • strawberries

  • blueberries

  • peanut butter

  • granola

  • coconut flakes

here’s what you’ll need to do

Blend frozen berries, frozen bananas, milk, beet juice, cashews, a pinch of cinnamon, and a drizzle of honey until smooth. We like to use a Vitamix to do this.

Place smoothie in a bowl and top with things that make you happy.
We use fresh bananas, strawberries and blueberries, a drizzle of peanut butter, granola and coconut flakes.

Close your eyes and imagine you can hear waves lapping and feel warm sun beams shining down on your face.

Good To Know: When Mikey is making our smoothies for breakfast, he makes them as nutrient dense as possible, knowing I’ll probably be feeding us a brick of cheese later in the day.

Some of the ways he does this is by adding scoops of peanut butter, handfuls of hemp seeds and almonds, and any powders we may be using to supplement our diet at the time - currently that’s collagen. He also uses fresh bananas as opposed to frozen and more of the liquids listed above.

Enjoy!
