Recipe for a Beach Cleanup Kit

Recipe for a Beach Cleanup Kit

Immediately after borrowing a beach cleanup kit from Kailua Beach Adventures to earn a discount on our overnight kayak rental, we set out to make our own so we could easily pick up rubbish while sunbathing.

And I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t somewhat addicting.

here’s what you’ll need

here’s what you’ll need to do

Make your sifter by carefully lining and wrapping the edges of your galvanized hardware cloth with duct tape.
You may need to do a couple layers of duct tape to ensure all edges are securely covered for safe handling and durability.
(In other words, this stuff can be kinda pokey… )

Go to the beach.

Shovel a bit of sand up with your sifter.
Give it a shake shake shake so the sand falls through.
Dump assorted pieces of plastic, styrofoam, rope or otherwise into the bucket.

Put gloves on to pick large pieces of garbage up off the ground.

Properly dispose of everything when you get home.

And of course, please use your best judgment when picking up items. For any hazardous or sharp materials, consider leaving them and alerting the appropriate authorities for safe removal.

Oh, and don’t forget to wash your hands.

Whee!
